Faculty of Law invites you to the panel discussion about the evolving direction of globalisation.
About this Event

Globalisation, once perceived as an inexorable force driving interconnectedness and interdependence among nations, is undergoing a profound transition. This session aims to dissect the evolving nature of globalisation through the lens of diverse contemporary examples that shed light on the changing identity and direction of this complex phenomenon. By dissecting these diverse examples, this session explores the shifting identity and direction of globalisation in the 21st century. Participants will gain insights into the complex interplay of economic, technological, environmental, and social forces shaping our interconnected world, paving the way for informed discourse and future research in the field of global studies. The session highlights recent research from three recent book publications, i.e., Umair Ghori, ‘Export Restrictions and Export Controls: From WTO to the Realm of Global Security (2023, Edward Elgar)’ and Umair Ghori, Mary Hiscock, Louise Parsons & Casey Watters (Eds), ‘Globalisation in Transition: Human and Economic Perspectives’, (2023, Springer Nature). The session also draws on John Farrar and David Mayes (Eds), ‘Globalisation, the Global Financial Crisis, and the State (2013, Edward Elgar). The research presented in the seminar will feature in the upcoming edited book “Globalisation in Transition – Perspectives in a Changing World (forthcoming, 2025)”.
