About this Event
Waves, a remarkable Czech film short-listed for the Oscars in 2025, transports viewers to the experiences of Czech students during the tumultuous Prague Spring and the harrowing invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Red Army in August 1968.
NC State faculty member Paul Isom will give a short presentation to gain insight into the historical context of the film and its characters.
“Led by its stellar ensemble, Waves makes for a fleet-footed period drama, the kind whose straightforward narrative is heightened by its stylistic and narrative confidence.” – Variety.
In Czech with English subtitles; runtime 131 minutes. The Global Film Series is a partnership between the NC State University Libraries and NC State Global, and Waves is screened with support from NC State European Center in Prague, as part of its 20th anniversary celebration.
