Global Ethics & Leadership Gathering

You have the unique opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals from far and near. 

African and Baltimorean innovators who share a common vision for creating social progress will come together on Tue, July 17. We’re collaborating with UMBC Center for Global Engagement, for our second annual engagement with the accomplished individuals from the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. 

Equipped with unique perspectives from their homelands, join us for this global knowledge exchange where we’ll: 

• Learn and share more about each other’s communities and respective social impact projects
• Participate in engaging conversations on global ethics and leadership 
• Connect with local and global professionals from fields ranging from healthcare, art, technology and human rights
• Experience slam poetry performances from DewMore’s nationally renowned youth team. The fellows will also share poems they created in a workshop with DewMore

Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders: follow their journey

This flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), empowers young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa through academic coursework, leadership training, mentoring, networking, professional opportunities, and local community engagement. Since 2014, the U.S. Department of State has supported nearly 5,800 young leaders from 49 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa to develop their leadership skills and foster connections and collaborations with U.S. professionals. The cohort of Fellows hosted by The University of Maryland, Baltimore County, funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), will be part of a group of 700 Mandela Washington Fellows hosted at 28 educational institutions across the United States.

The Center of Global Engagement (CGE) provides activities, services and advising for study abroad students, international students, international faculty, researchers and scholars at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).

The CGE is dedicated to supporting and facilitating global academic initiatives by advancing the international exchange of students, scholars, and faculty and by providing leadership in intercultural learning.

DewMore

Born and bred in Baltimore, the organization used to house the nationally acclaimed Baltimore City Youth Poetry Team, some of the best Black spoken word artists, and is committed to fostering civic engagement with historically marginalized peoples through innovative art-focused programming. Dinner will also be provided.
