GLO Movie Night: Desert Hearts (1985)Join us for our quarterly GLO Center Movie Night event on Saturday, August 23rd at 4:00 PM at Moxie Cinema, featuring a special screening of the film Desert Hearts (1985).
Set amid Reno’s dusty casinos and divorce “dude ranches” in 1959, Desert Hearts follows a button-down East-Coast professor who, during her six-week wait for a quick Nevada divorce, strikes up an unexpected friendship with a free-spirited local woman. Their growing bond unfolds into one of the screen’s earliest, truly affirming lesbian romances—portrayed with warmth rather than tragedy—making the film a landmark of queer cinema and a perfect feel-good pick for The GLO Center’s movie night.
🗣️ Pre-Movie Discussion: Before the movie, there will be a brief lead-in discussion to explore the film's themes and its relevance today.
📖 There will be a book drawing either before or after the movie. The book for the drawing "Desert of the Heart" by Jane Rule is what the movie is based off of.
🎟️ Admission: FREE
🎟️ Tickets: Available at moxiecinema.com or at the Box Office. Tickets are first come, first serve.
