We offer a two day course covering all the basics in glass fusing and slumping, ideal for those who want to start a new hobby using kiln fusing techniques. You will learn accurate technical information, and will complete projects including a fused and slumped glass bowl which you will make from scratch. There will be a lot to remember, so a handbook will be provided detailing the processes you have learnt as well as the different compatibilities of System 96 glass. There will be a maximum of nine students to ensure individual attention.This is a LEVEL ONE course - Suitable for beginners.
• What does the course cover?
You will begin with a lesson in basic glass cutting. For those who are beginners, don't worry, we will have you cutting sheets of glass with confidence in minutes. For those who have cut glass before, we may show you a new trick or two!
We aim to give students a thorough taste of glass fusing, and you will try a variety of techniques and make a number of pieces. Working with fusing glass to make a bowl, we fuse a blank and slump our bowl the following day. We also cover tack and contour fusing with other exciting projects for you to explore in a creative and relaxed environment.
Every piece you make will be fired in our excellent Kilncare Glass kilns and sent out to you at no extra cost.
We offer a 10% shop discount for students while on the course (this excludes kilns, power tools and sale items).
• What do I need to bring?
Nothing but yourself and a sturdy pair of closed-toed shoes. All of your glass, materials and tools provided.
Lunch:
We will provide a delicious cold lunch as well as light refreshments throughout the day. Please let us know in advance if you have any special dietary requirements. We will do our best to cater to everyone but this cannot always be guaranteed.
• What are the course times?
The course starts at 10am and runs until approximately 4pm. There is a chance that it may overrun depending on progress.
