About this Event
The aim of this session is to help practitioners working in school age childcare to reframe their understanding of behaviour management by becoming a trauma informed practitioner.
We will look at how "challenging behaviour" may be better described as distressed behaviour, and how having a deeper understanding of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and trauma can help practitioners support children to have positive outcomes.
The learning objectives of this 2.5 hour session are:
- Identify the meaning of distressed behaviour as opposed to "challenging behaviour"
- List the types of ACEs children may go through
- Understand the symptoms of trauma and the impact this can have on behaviour
- Examine practical approaches to prevent distressed behaviours
- Illustrate practical approaches for managing moments of distressed behaviours
