How and why play is essential for social transformation
About this Event

“The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing.” Archilochus

So much of our world feels fixed and unchangeable, especially 'the economy'. But what if play could help us imagine and build alternatives?

In this Lunch Plus talk, Anna Coromina and Aviv Kruglanski of 3 Stages of Succession explore how free play can become a practical tool for social transformation, social entrepreneurship, and community economies.

Drawing on Scott Eberle’s work on play, Philip Tetlock’s fox-and-hedgehog metaphor, and Brian Eno’s Oblique Strategies, they are developing a deck of playful tools and posters to support innovative but precarious projects, which will be shared during the session.

This talk is part of Giroscope’s 2026 Lunch Plus series celebrating Radical Ideas. Real Connections.

For forty years, Giroscope has transformed long-term empty and run-down houses into safe, sustainable, and affordable homes, and built new ones, demonstrating how collective action can tackle the housing crisis from the ground up.

Beyond housing, Giroscope connects communities with policymakers, supports people into work, and creates spaces for social enterprise to thrive.
