A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu event for women and girls taught by some of the best women in the sport. No experience required.
About this Event

We return to the island of Maui for our 1st event back since the devastating fires of 2023. We know that there are still so many that are struggling and displaced. We want to do our part and give back to individuals in the community that needs it most. All proceeds from this event will be donated via Help Maui Rise which provides direct aid for ohana that have been displaced by the fires .

Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators.

You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.

GIG Hawai'i-Kahului Guest instructors: Jennifer Weintz & Penny Thomas

Penny Thomas is a multiple time World Champion, Pan American Champion and ADCC champion 4th degree black belt on the Gracie Humaita Team under Leticia Ribeiro. She is also a former junior Olympic gymnast. Not only does she have an impressive competitive career she currently instructors both BJJ and gymnastics.

Jennifer Weintz is a 2nd degree black belt, 2x Pan Am champion, RHN (Registered Holistic Nutritionist), Personal Trainer, Yoga and Pilates instructor, Wellness Coach, Makeup Artist, International and National fitness competitor, as well as a mom! She feels blessed to have coached a large variety of people through sharing her knowledge, guidance, inspiration and love. Her driving force is watching her clients become empowered, believing in themselves and achieving their goals.

COST: $5 Min Donation. All Donations Welcome. All proceeds from this event will be donated via Help Maui Rise which provides direct aid for ohana that have been displaced by the fires . Our goal is to get the funding into the hands of those that need it most.

If you have been impacted by the fires or are unable to make a donation please use code MALAMAMAUI to register for free. Donations are not required to attend.

ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST REGISTER ONLINE. ONLINE REGISTRATION WILL BE CLOSED 7/20/24 at 12:00 PM OR ONCE WE REACH CAPACITY. WALK-INS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ONCE CAPACITY IS REACHED.

Tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and all sales are final. Doors open at 10:30 am. Please arrive early to change and get ready or come ready so we may start on time at 11:00 am.
