****WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE ITEMS IF THEY ARE NOT PREPARED PROPERLY.
BRING YOUR CLEAN ITEMS LISTED BELOW (Please read details below carefully) AND WE WILL COLLECT ITEMS CURBSIDE IN A SAFE MANNER.
THIS IS A ONE DAY ONLY COLLECTION and POSSIBLY FINAL, SO TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS.
WHY are we doing this? NONE of these items can be recycled in our Single Stream Blue Recycling Bins. This often means these items end up in a landfill or incinerated which causes Greenhouse Gases. This is entirely unnecessary as they can go on to have another life. Did you know that in the first year and a half of the pandemic 3.2 BILLION SINGLE USE PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS WERE USED JUST IN MASSACHUSETTS ALONE despite so many bag bans!
ABOUT OUR TROOP: We are Girl Scout Troop #68277 in Dorchester, and we have worked hard over the years to change policy within Boston, clean our community, and help others learn about sustainability and recycling. Our girls helped pass the Single Use plastic bag ban in Boston, over six years ago and some even received a Community Engagement Award by the City of Boston. We have been a Troop for 13 years, with some of our eldest troop members in their first year of college and another round of girls graduating this year, this may be our final Specialty Recycling Drive. Our push this year and BIG DREAM is to convince the City of Boston to ban styrofoam and styrofoam not included in the bad could easily be incorporated into their Zero Waste Days and have a greater impact, especially regarding Styrofoam. It was never our intention to hold this forever and we have been thrilled by the support of the community over the last 5 years. Please share your words of encouragement and help make this dream a reality.
Our stats: We have diverted 7500 lbs of waste total; 673lbs of that was STYROFOAM!
This is something we can do today to help OUR future!
