About this Event
The Ginger Works Cinema Club is back! This time we will be screening MORIYAMA-SAN by Bêka & Lemoine.
Moriyama-San is an architectural documentary that captures an entire week in the life of Yasuo Moriyama, the owner of the iconic Moriyama House in Tokyo, designed by Ryue Nishizawa of SANAA. The film opens with a striking reference to noise-music as an entry point to Moriyama-san’s world, and invites the viewer into his calm routines: listening to music, projecting films on the wall, reading, simply watching the sky, blowing dandelions. After the passing of his mother, Moriyama-san asked SANAA to build a “little village in the middle of Tokyo”, and the house becomes an expression of his life, his habits and his space. It is beautifully poetic, quietly experimental, pungent, funny and unexpectedly touching. The film is said to have strongly influenced Wim Wenders’ Perfect Days.
