Happy New Year 2026 Got a Motorcycle, ride down grab a Burrito
This is an annual "see and be seen" event held in Gilroy every January 1st.
The Gilroy Burrito Run on New Year’s Day has become quite a tradition, bringing riders in from all over central & northern California, and as far away as Nevada, Arizona & beyond.
For those that are unfamiliar with this outstanding event, here’s at least one version of how it all started…
Many years ago, on New Year's day, a group 10 or so bikers were on their way from somewhere North of Gilroy, down to Monterey. The group decided that they wanted to stop, gas & eat when they hit Gilroy. Being New Year’s Day, they found nothing open. Someone noticed activity in the Cielito Lindo restaurant & knocked on the door.
The Cielito Lindo Restaurant was not open. The people inside were the family members preparing to eat their own New Year’s Day breakfast. Instead of being sent off, the bikers were welcomed into Cielito Lindo and invited to eat breakfast in the restaurant with the family. Well, the food was good, the company was wonderful, and the bikers enjoyed themselves so much that they promised to come back on New Year’s Day the following year.
True to their word, the bikers not only came back the next year, but they brought more bikers with them. Every year since then, the annual “Gilroy Burrito Run” has become a much anticipated tradition for the area biker community and the City of Gilroy on New Year’s Day.
The number of riders coming onto Gilroy has long since exceeded the capacity of the Cielito Lindo Restaurant. To accommodate the ever increasing crowds of bikers, Gilroy’s other downtown restaurants are also open on New Year’s morning.
