The Red Shield Appeal. You may have noticed the bucket-shaking that was going on this week! During the Auckland lockdowns, the Red Shield Appeal took a massive hit. The Salvation Army distributed thousands of food parcels citywide but could not raise funds to maintain the coffers by doing the Street Appeal due to social distancing.
Over that period, the Family Stores were asked to help and were kitted out with Pay Wave machines for automatic $2 donations and posters with QR codes to make donating easier. It helped but recovery is still ongoing.
This Thursday (16th May), the GIFS will be doing their part for the Red Shield Appeal; shaking buckets, talking to our people and feeding the masses. From 10am - 1pm, we will be throwing down one of our famous sausage sizzles with Sergeant Sean from the GI Police Station, Raewyn from the Red Shield Appeal team, Susan our corps officer from our Auckland City Church in Mt Wellington, our drivers Keli and Danyon on the tongs and the rest of the GIFS team inside calling specials out as they happen. As the youngins say, it will be lit.

As a side note, that handsome bugger with the bucket is my dad, Brian. If he happens to be at the BBQ, have a korero with him. He's an absolute vibe...
