We cordially invite everyone to attend the Giant Steps Fundraiser in order to help raise funds for We Can't Breathe's Justice Project. The event will feature food, drinks, a raffle, a DJ and a variety of speakers.

We Can’t Breathe Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization founded by Emerald Garner in honor of her late father, Eric Garner, who was murdered by the police in 2014, despite him pleading and saying, “I Can’t Breathe” 11 times. This new organization is born out of Emerald’s unique firsthand understanding of how the impacts of police brutality suffocate not only the victim, but also the communities they come from as well. Whether it be the isolation and depression Emerald had to navigate while also having to watch her father’s M**der on the news repeatedly, the confusion and subsequent learning curve she experienced after being thrust into the world of activism or the financial hardships she has had to endure while raising her late sister’s children alongside her own, Emerald’s life has uniquely positioned her to understand the needs of those left behind by the violence. The organization’s Justice Project is a perfect first example of the value her intuition adds. The program takes a thorough and holistic approach to servicing impacted youth, providing programming that includes: mental wellness services that help youth navigate trauma and life, a stipend to help cover basic needs like food, housing and transportation, and GED and career development opportunities that aim to assist youth in the program as they plan for a self-sustaining future.
