About this Event
We are delighted to welcome North Carolina-based horror writer Gianni Washington back to Birmingham following her stunning performance at our December STORIE event to dive deeper into her disturbing debut collection, Flowers from the Void.
Join Gianni as she discusses the strange propulsion of her stories, introducing us to a macabre cast of characters including girls without shadows, bereaved African witches, & bodies falling to bits. Talking about her unique twists on the classic gothic horror story, Gianni will also draw parallels between her work & contemporary experience, showing how the weird and the eerie is not only something taking place behind the veil of the everyday, but a fundamental & haunting part of it too.
Gianni Washington is an American writer and former bookseller with a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from The University of Surrey. Her writing can be found in the Chicago Review of Books, West Trade Review, on Litromagazine.com, and in the horror anthology Brief Grislys, among other places. Her debut short story collection ‘Flowers from the Void’ is forthcoming from Serpent’s Tail in Spring 2024. She currently lives in North Carolina, rubbing antlers with a whole bunch of deer, alongside her cats Choko & Neal.
This is one of our ‘Dialogues’ events, hosting interviews with experimental contemporary authors, picking at the threads of their new fiction works & the ideas that underpin them.
Tickets for the event are free, but we kindly ask that you place a reservation here on our Eventbrite page.
