GHOSTLAND: A Journey Through Syria (2025)
dir. Matt Dworzańczyk // RT: 1hr 46min
Syria… Such a culturally rich country, with such incredibly resilient people, and yet the ghosts of its tragic recent history are all around, some still very much alive…
Over a decade after the release of his eye-opening North Korea documentary, director Matt Dworzanczyk’s GHOSTLAND (2025, 106 min) invites you to visit the war-torn Arab state, not to dwell on the past nor make light of the hardship – but to experience today’s Syria through the eyes of the country’s most creative locals, all striving to turn their collective traumas into beauty, peace and unity for their people.

Matt Dworzanczyk is an international award-winning film director and a long time Hanoi expat. With a Hollywood background (the Dark Knight, Prison Break, Charlie’s Angels) and years of experience producing documentary films for the BBC, CNN, NBC and other media networks, Matt’s work has been repeatedly recognized for its humanity and down-to-earth, independent approach to often sensitive and little know stories from the most unknown parts of the world.
His North Korea documentary, “DPRK: Land of Whispers,” has been seen by millions on- and off-line. His “Love Market,” exploring the lives of Vietnam’s ethnic minority groups in the north of the country, won awards at a number of film festivals. His “Artist Police,” a based-on-truth experimental film portraying Vietnam’s most controversial censorship police officer turned artist extraordinaire – was adapted into a live audio-visual show following its release.
With GHOSTLAND, Matt brings his camera to yet another nemesis of most travel advisories… aiming to show an authentic human side all too often missing from most portrayals of Syria.
