The Great Potoo, more commonly referred to as the “ghost bird” is known for singing hauntingly beautiful melodies while looking like an idiot. They are believed to hold deep wisdom, know truths beyond this realm, have oracular-like insights of the unknown, all while seriously looking like a freak. If you see one it is believed that trouble or even death is imminent. This begs the question, if trouble is imminent after seeing a ghost bird, then why should you see Ghostbird? Maybe you shouldn’t. But then again, maybe trouble and death is imminent regardless, and if you’ve gotta go, you might as well get a little weird first. Ghostbird is an experience, Ghostbird is loud, heavy, beautiful, ugly, bitter, rugged, raw, greasy, and delicious. Ghostbird pulls inspirations from blues, rock, haunted artifacts, psychedelia, Americana, weirdos, eccentrics, and freaks. Ghostbird is an experience unlike anything else in the Seacoast. See for yourself... Unless you’re the superstitious type.
Max, Sam, and Rich met in Brooklyn many years ago, sharing stages and tours together in their respective former bands. When they all wound up in coastal New England, they decided to start a thing and make some noise with each other.
Sonically, Dummy Ache’s influences are easy enough to pinpoint: The melodic dreaminess of Glaxie 500, the psychedelic freak-outs of Yo La Tengo, the towering roar of Dinosaur Jr., and the soaring wall of sound of Slowdive are all fair reference points. One thing’s for sure: Close your eyes and it becomes incredibly hard to believe that what you’re hearing is coming from just three people.
Rooted in folk and DIY, Bird Friend’s sound also blends elements of punk, early psych and garage rock, slowcore and alt-country. Noted for its literate lyricism and unique guitar work, Bird Friend has been on the DIY scene for over ten years, performing in basements, bars, and clubs all over the United States.
Restless and experimental by nature, the band has collaborated with artists, musicians, and poets to create an identity that sounds like nothing else, yet is unmistakably theirs.
