Washington Old Hall stands on the site of a wooden Saxon Hall that dates back to the 10th century with the Manor itself being 17th century.
The Hall is said to be haunted by the apparition of three spirits, a gentleman and two ladies- a white and a grey lady. It also has a haunted staircase.
The Grey lady, that often appears crying in a long grey dress gliding along the floor. The apparition has been reported to be accompanied by the small of lavender.
The White Lady is most frequently reportedly seen in the panel room where she is seen sitting before standing and walking through part of the wall that was once a doorway. She is sometimes seen wringing her hands as if anxious or upset.
The male spirit is seen on the balcony and has been spotted observing wedding guests on their special day.
Finally, the Haunted Staircase...staff often hear the sound of running down the stairs followed by a thump as if someone has jumped from the last few steps. The interesting thing is that the steps do not belong to the building, as they were brought from an old hotel in Surrey, so it is thought that the spirit is not original to the Hall itself but from the actual staircase!
