About this Event
Just like the professionals in Ghost Adventures, Paranormal Lockdown etc YOU could become the investigators at a haunted venue. We do not fake or stage activity and everything that you experience will be genuine. Our team will lead you through a night of investigation using the most up to date equipment to evidence the paranormal using both traditional techniques and modern techniques to muster up activity.
So why investigate Vane Tempest?
Paranormal Activity
Over the years much activity has been reported here which is why this is a venue many Paranormal groups come to. Reports of voices murmuring and whispering is commonly heard. These whispers and murmurs may belong to the Lady in White that is said to haunt this venue. A white apparition has been seen walking through the walls of the building. It is believed that this lady was in a relationship with a soldier and she still walks the paths trying to find her lover.
It is also believed that a disfigured soldier walks throughout the Hall. It is believed that he was severely injured during a training accident involving a cannon.
Many people have witnessed flashes of light, sudden blasts of cold air, tappings, loud bangs and papers in the hallway have been known to be spread all over the floor without any explanation. Doors have slammed of their own accord and dragging sounds are sometimes heard.
Strangely a clown is said to also be seen in this building. He brings fear and dread to those that witness him. What connection to the building the clown has is unknown but one thing is for sure, it has scared unsuspecting visitors out of their wits!
What will you experience?
History
Vane Tempest is a grade 11 castle style building that is made out of the traditional sandstone brick and slate tiles for the roof. It was opened a militia headquarters in 1863 (date of which can still be read on the corner turret panel which is inscribed, ‘2nd Durham Militia Stores.’ It was commonly known as Gilesgate Militia Barracks and has housed a number of different units throughout the years.
The building over time has had many uses, one of which being in 1884 the Hall was used as an isolation unit / hospital for people suffering from the disease smallpox. It is believed that parts of the building was used to house dead bodies!
It was also used in WW2 by the military as a look out point to protect against the Germans.
In more recent years the Hall is now a community centre that has seen many events including scouts, tea dancing, sporting and social activities and of course paranormal investigations.
