Join us on one of our EXCLUSIVE paranormal investigations at the amazing Southwick Hall near Oundle, Peterborough.A medieval manor quietly tucked away on the edge of Rockingham Forest, this is a truly unusual venue to visit.
Despite its undisturbed setting, Southwick teems with history, stories and characters stretching back to the Middle Ages.
Over its 700 years, only three families have owned Southwick Hall. The first were the Knyvetts – among them John, who became Lord Chancellor under the warmongering Edward III in 1372.
DO MEMBERS OF THIS INFLUENTIAL FAMILY STILL RESIDE HERE AT SOUTHWICK HALL?
The Lynne family took over the estate in the 15th century and the line continued here until the death in 1827 of the last natural heiress, Augusta. Aged 15, even the medical advice of their family friend, Anne Lister (“Gentleman Jack”), was unable to save her.
An earlier Lynne, George I, was closely involved with the beheading of Mary Queen of Scots at nearby Fotheringhay in 1587.
The controversial Execution Warrant, signed by Elizabeth I, has never been found. As the local MP (and a friend of Lord Burghley’s) George Lynne is understood to have taken charge of the Warrant and walled it in at Southwick, away from prying eyes.
COULD YOU BE PART OF A PARANORMAL INVESTIGATION FINALLY TRACKING DOWN THE EXECUTION WARRANT OF MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS?
From the Victorian era to the present day, the Capron family have owned and lived at Southwick Hall, ushering through its doors another remarkable cast of characters – from John Smith, the local brewer, to evacuees and Land Girls during the war. Roderick Capron, a Lancaster bomber who gave his life on just his third mission over Germany, is still remembered.
