Waitangi weekend 2025 sees an influx of dynamite artists going to blow up the spot. The Nomad returns to the Last Resort and brings a whole bunch of musical talent for a wild adventure in Karamea. The show lineup features King Kapisi, Ambush Brass, Future Flowz along with MC Antsman and DJ Miss Meow playing super slinky beats. The Nomad, a pioneer of electronic music in Aotearoa will be showcasing remixed tunes along with new material for his next album.
For the first time Kiwi hip hop legend King Kapisi crosses the great divide to bring a backpack full of lyrical fire and explosive beats. His music and lyrics raise issues relevant to Pacific Islands people living in Aotearoa. He was the first hip hop artist in New Zealand to receive the prestigious Silver Scroll Award at the APRA Awards for Songwriter of the Year in 1999 for Reverse Resistance.
In 2022 he was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to music and the community. A powerful vocalist fusing hip hop and reggae, he’s a proud Samoan, always waving the flag and screaming from the plantation.
Also first timers to Karamea will be Ambush Brass, hailing from the flat plains of Ōtautahi, this electrifying 8-piece second-line brass band is made to shake bodies. Blending the vibrant energy of New Orleans with the soul of Aotearoa, Ambush Brass brings a high-octane mix of brass, drums, and infectious rhythms that’ll get you up and dancing. With their funky grooves, brass blares, and irresistible spirit, every performance is a celebration.
Finally another new creature from the jungle is support dj Future Flowz. He’s new to the scene but has been around music his whole life growing up backstage in the Aotearoa music scene, particularly going to Shapeshifter and Tiki Taane gigs with his dad. Doing so has inspired him to pursue his own dreams of being in the music industry. He has been working for Shapeshifter for a few years, initially setting up for rehearsals and now a drum stage tech. He’s remixed POWER feat King Kapisi on The Nomad’s Infinite III album.
What better place to experience Aotearoa music up close and personal in the wild surrounded by the stunning nature with the locals. An epic gig not to be missed, make it a date and don't be late.
