Join us as Shara Nova, a vocal marvel, and Marta Troicki, managing director of Present Music, will present an engaging talk about life in the arts, being a performer, composer and a leader. They will discuss the role of arts organizations in today’s world and bring you closer to the music, as well as to Shara’s concert, “The Blue Hour,” taking place on April 11 at the Milwaukee Art Museum. This piece made NPR’s Top Ten List across all genres last year, and will be presented this year only in Milwaukee and Paris, France. Present Music is Milwaukee’s leading ensemble specializing in the commissioning and performance of new music. Beyond being an experienced leader in artistic organizations, Marta Troicki has experience as a solo, chamber and orchestral musician. She has performed at numerous locations, including Carnegie Hall in New York City, with the Arab Emirates Philharmonic Orchestra in Dubai and recently in Bangkok, Thailand.
Shara Nova is a composer, vocalist, musician, and an artist of many gifts currently creating from Detroit, Michigan. She has released five albums under the moniker My Brightest Diamond. Nova is a 2023 Opera America Discovery Grant awardee, Kresge Arts fellow, a Carolina Performing Arts Creative Futures fellow, a Knights Grant recipient, a United States Artists fellow, and a New Music USA recipient. Guests are encouraged to attend this special program, and are welcome to pay with a credit card or check that day.
