Gestures Of Remembrance: Fashion Revolution x Detroit Evening Of The Arts

Come join us for an evening of creativity and reflection at Andy Arts.  This date marks the 12th anniversary of the Rana Plaza Collapse in Bangladesh.  During Fashion Revolution Week, we remember the lives lost and demand that no one should die for fashion.  Join us for mindful stitching, immerse yourself in a meditative installation with live sound bowls, and enjoy an evening performance with movement and live sound.

5-7pm:  Commemorative Quilt Circle

Contribute to the Commemorative Quilt Project led by Tina Tse.  Participants are invited to create a quilt square and learn the basics of hand and machine sewing techniques, including embroidery and applique.  The quilt project is a multi-day workshop during April and will culminate to a state of completion at this event. 

7-8pm Introspective Installation

Enter into a meditative state as you explore the interactive installation by Sudani Shaah & Sarah Mark.  Allow the live sound bowls to draw you into this space of silence as we offer gestures of remembrance. 

8-9pm The Other Side 

Enjoy a movement performance piece by Laura Quattrocchi with live sound by Kathy Lea.

“Several years ago I walked inside a donation center warehouse with some bags to give.  As I entered, I froze at the sight of a 20’ high mountain of clothes.  That image never left my mind and I knew one day I would find the right opportunity to bring it to life.”
