A woman, a place, a story
In 1924, near Queenstown on the west coast of Lutruwita/Tasmania, a young man holds a double-barrelled gun with a black cockatoo perched on the barrel. A young woman with short curly hair stands beside him in the button grass, a dead black cockatoo dangling from each hand.
Who is this woman, and what is she doing? Travel through time and place with Jacqui Malins to find out. This story is set in the deep history of ancient Lutruwita and the vibrant community and boom-and-bust rhythms of the west coast: a world of rivers and rainforest, smelters and dams.
Jacqui brings together spoken word with visuals and music for a transporting, multimedia experience. The story of GERT is also available as a book of poems and prints, published by Recent Work Press.
