Already in 1953 the first US-American fighter wing was stationed south of the German village Spangdahlem. Today, about 8000 Americans still work and live in the larger area.
Ever since, now for several decades, international friendships have begun and continued.
The German-American Stammtisch, German for "regular's table", was initiated in the fall of 2019. It is the local contribution to foster new connections and support communities. Organized and offered by German and American volunteers, usually on the last Saturday of each month, the Stammtisch meets at different locations in the area surrounding Spangdahlem. Due to the Memorial Day weekend in May, the Stammtisch happens one week earlier than usual.
Why get out? Trying new restaurants lets you discover new dishes, new flavors, ew locations. As restaurants often reflect the culture of a region, it can also teach you about local traditions and customs - while you support a local business. Aside from breaking your routine, it also offers the social experience. This all can expand your knowledge and your options.
In May locals and expats are meeting for a German dinner in the town Ehrang, 25 mins south of Spangdahlem Air Base.
The small town is situated north east of Trier, left of Moselle river, and stems from Celtic times. The family-run restaurant's cuisine is known for its hearty and flavorful dishes, clearly influenced by regional ingredients and agricultural traditions.
