Immerse yourself in Georgian culture at a Georgian style supra feast with four singers from the world famous Georgian state ensemble, Rustavi, visiting Cardiff as part of a UK wide tour during February. This event is brought to you by Pitchblend in collaboration with Cardiff's first and only Georgian restaurant, Genatsvale.
SUPRA 19.00-22.00. £50
A supra is a key part of Georgian culture, and a unique, intimate and authentic way to experience Georgian polyphony. It is a shared meal, at which a toastmaster or 'tamada' is elected. Food is served 'tapas' style across the tables so that each guest can help themselves from any dish as they wish during the course of the meal. Food may be eaten at any time, but wine is only drunk following a toast. Usually a song relating to the theme of the toast will be sung.
While the tamada sets the pace and theme of the toasts, everyone present is permitted and encouraged to offer their own toasts on the topic the tamada has proposed.
The ticket price includes a generous range of delicious typical Georgian dishes, expertly prepared by the skilled cooks at Genatsvale restaurant. So this is an excellent way to experience a wide selection of different foods, in the company of some of the finest and most experienced singers of traditional Georgian polyphonic songs.
Georgia was the birthplace of wine, and wine occupies a central place in Georgian culture, and at the supra table. A range of expertly selected Georgian wines will be available to buy to accompany your meal, along with other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
