The awesome George is back to educate and entertain us…During WW1 the idea of tunnelling under the enemies (in this case German) trenches was first developed by the British. It was a highly secretive endeavour producing some literally earth shattering results. The brave men who fought these underground battles were nicknamed “Claykickers”. The Battle of Messines Ridge was an offensive operation using tunnelling which proved to be a resounding success contributing to the defeat of Germany.
