The Monas Hieroglyphica, or Hieroglyphic Monad, is an enigmatic work written in 1564 by the Elizabethan astrologer John Dee. Within its pages, Dee presents us with a symbol - the sacred symbol of unity - comprised of the seven classical planetary glyphs. Dee makes great claims for this symbol - primarily its application to alchemy - but also suggests that it opens up new horizons for optics, astronomy, geography, cabala, end even music. This talk by Dr Phil Legard will explore the Monad, its sources and context, geometrical structure, applications and reception in later magical and occult work
