Dana Awartani creates geometric patterns rooted in traditional Islamic and Arab art and architecture, with a deep connection to cultural memory and preservation.
In our Community Workshop we’ve put out gridded paper, compasses and rulers so you can have a go at designing and repeating your own geometric patterns. You can find inspiration by looking outside our windows, buildings, or natural forms that hold personal meaning for you.
Things to think about:
What spaces – past or present -have shaped who you are?
Could the shapes, patterns, or textures from those places appear in your design?
