About this Event

Colorado is renowned for its breathtaking mountains and panoramic vistas; however, the region's geological history extends far beyond its modern landscapes, well into deep time. This lecture will highlight the complex evolution of the Centennial State and the ancient life found here, delving into the diverse range of life and environments that have existed throughout deep time, emphasizing the Age of Dinosaurs. This presentation will go into a brief paleohistory of the Mile High region, focusing on the historic and modern discoveries of the inhabitants of Jurassic savannahs and the last dinosaur-dominated ecosystem during the dawn of the rising Rockies.

Matthew T. Mossbrucker is the director and chief curator of the Morrison Natural History Museum in Morrison, Colorado. He has committed his career to preserving the paleontological heritage of the historic Jurassic strata at the Lakes-Marsh Atlantosaurus Beds, which are part of the Morrison-Golden Fossils Beds National Natural Landmark. He spearheads public initiatives that interpret Colorado's dinosaurs and their ecology and biology, and encourages critical thinking through his original research.

To complement our Prehistoric Aurora exhibit, the Aurora History Museum is thrilled to host a six-part Prehistoric Eras Tour! These engaging presentations will transport you through millions of years of natural history, from ancient seas filled with trilobites to the Ice Age landscapes of Colorado. Whether you’re a dinosaur lover, a geology buff, or simply curious about the world beneath your feet, this free series has something for everyone.
