Writing Doesn’t Have to Be Lonely was established in February 2018 as a monthly happening for writers to hear their work at an early stage read by actors.Whether it is something that has been written in the last couple of weeks or a script that has been sitting in a drawer for a couple of years, the group encourage emerging and established artists to bring their scripts along. These are then given out to actors and the work is performed to the audience. This has been invaluable for the writers to hear the work and get feedback from the actors, writers and others in attendance.
During the COVID pandemic, WDHTBL sessions moved online and had writers attending from both sides of the US as well as New Zealand and China. Since returning to face-to-face performances in February 2022, the group have found a new home at Royal & Derngate and have started offering more structured feedback, allowing the writers to work on their craft.
From their events, many collaborations have been established and several of the scripts have gone into professional productions.
This sharing is a showcase of some of the group’s favourite scripts from the last 12 months.
