About this Event
"Genetics Matters", one of the Faculty of Medical Sciences public engagement events and an International Rare Disease Day event, is back on the 2nd of March 2025. A combination of lay-language lectures and hands-on research tables, our event is a great opportunity to learn about genetics, rare diseases, chat to Newcastle University scientists, and find out about the recent developments in research at Newcastle. In 2025, the event will run 10am-4:30pm on Sunday the 2nd of March in the beautiful Great Hall of the Discovery Museum, and refreshments will be provided. We will have 3-4 short researcher and patient talks, with most of the day dedicated to the hands-on research and informal discussion tables. We will cover the cutting-edge topics of genomics, epigenetics, single cell research, stem cells and tissue regeneration, personalised medicine, drug repurposing, mitochondrial donation and cancer research, amongst others.
