About this Event

Generative AI CAD for 3D Printing & CNC Machining Course

Join us for this hands-on, 3 day course that equips participants with the skills to design for manufacturing using Fusion 360, focusing on both 3D printing and CNC machining. Ideal for learners with basic knowledge of Fusion 360, this course builds on foundational CAD skills to explore practical manufacturing techniques and introduce AI generative design (Must have previous experience with Fusion 360).

The course is led by Zac Hutton, a Year 11 student a Matthew Flinders Anglican College with extensive experience in CAD and manufacturing. Zac has developed numerous prototypes for 3D printing and CNC machining, specialising in teaching practical skills to beginners and professionals alike.

Day 1 focuses on foundational CAD concepts and design for 3D printing. Participants will learn about manufacturing machinery, material selection, and essential design principles like tolerances and supports. Hands-on activities include creating a snap-fit or press-fit joint for 3D printing, ensuring practical application of skills.

Day 2 dives into CNC machining, exploring its subtractive manufacturing principles, toolpaths, and clearances. A real-world design challenge encourages participants to apply their skills by creating functional CAD models for either 3D printing or CNC machining.

Day 3 introduces cutting-edge AI generative design. Participants receive feedback on their projects, explore how AI tools optimize designs for strength and efficiency, and discuss real-world applications of their work.
