Join Gemma at The Esplanade Hotel for a Beach Clean to gather materials followed by a Driftwood Workshop, part of the Be NQY Festival.
About this Event

Join Gemma at 10.30am at The Esplanade Hotel, from there (weather permitting) we will head down to the beach in front of the hotel for a beach clean, sponsored by Waterhaul. We will be using their beach clean equipment, which is all created using upcycled ghost fishing net which they gather from the Cornish coast, saving it from harming oceanlife.

Here you will not only clear any litter from the gorgeous Fistral beach, you will also gather any beach plastic, rope, driftwood, and most importantly some sand to use in your painting. Anything we find here we can experiment with in our workshop.

Then after a warming refreshment back up at the hotel, Gemma will guide you through her process of creating a textured shoreline beach scene onto an upcycled piece of driftwood ‘canvas’. Gemma will have driftwood with her for you to use, but if you do have a piece you have found that you would like to paint onto, please do bring it along!

Gemma will have ghost fishing net fragments from Waterhaul for you to play with to create texture, as well as lots of other materials from Cornish businesses, even tea bag paper!! But again, feel free to bring anything along you want to experiment with.

All materials and equipment will be provided by Gemma – aprons will be supplied but wear clothing you don’t mind may get any paint splatters on them, just in case!
