Deeply personal, dynamic spontaneous and expressive music from an all-star band led by Rob Cope (soprano sax and bass clarinet), a wonderful musician who’s delightful soloing you may have caught in the band that pianist Claire Cope brought to The Lescar earlier this year. Featuring Andy Scott (sax), Liam Noble (piano) and Paul Clarvis (drums), their music is fun and richly varied, multi-faceted and full of powerful interaction, played with technical agility yet expressive and thoughtful. They’ll be playing music from the album ‘Gemini’, released on Ubuntu in January, the title deriving from the two pre-existing duos (Rob and Andy on one hand and Liam and Paul on the other), that have come together to make up this quartet.
“Cope writes and plays often complex tunes with a fleet fingered grace which is a gift to appreciate.” Jazzwise

A powerful and creative improvising saxophonist, Rob Cope’s previous (debut) album featured Rob Luft, Elliot Galvin and Jon Ormston. He also performs in Matt Robert’s Bigish Band, Andy Scott’s Group S and contemporary classical ensemble, SoundSPARK, as well as appearing with the Halle and the English Symphony Orchestras and the Matthew Herbert Big Band.
Andy Scott is an award-winning composer, renowned educator, and an inspiring dynamic saxophonist who’s collaborated with the likes of Dave Hassell, John Helliwell, Tim McAllister, João Pedro Silva and The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.
One of the finest and most distinctive pianists on the UK jazz scene, always so exciting and inventive, Liam Noble has played with Stan Sulzmann, John Stevens, Bobby Wellins, Ingrid Laubrock, Phil Robson, Drew Gress, Julian Siegel, Mary Halvorson, Marc Ducret, Tim LeFebvre, Eric Harland, and Shabaka Hutchings.
On percussion, Paul Clarvis is simply one of the UK’s most in demand musicians, having played alongside Wynton Marsalis, Mick Jagger, Nina Simone, Ravi Shankar, Steve Swallow, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Sam Rivers, The Orb, and many more. A unique and joyfully exuberant presence.
