About this Event
Taste the best and most exclusive coffees in the world, and take some home with you after! The Geisha variety of coffee is the most famed in the world. Sought after for its delicate and complex flavors, this variety is only produced in limited quantities worldwide. In this event, you'll taste two exceptional examples of Geisha coffee, and go home with a small sample of both.
The most famous source for Geisha coffees is Panama, and no producer is more famous for their Geisha than Hacienda La Esmeralda. Esmeralda is widely credited as being the producer to 'discover' Geisha coffee, and bring its qualities to the world.
Bolivia is an incredible origin for coffee production, but various factors over the years have contributed to limiting the amount of great Bolivian coffee available. The Cup of Excellence, responsible for finding some of the best coffees worldwide, has sponsored a unique and special auction for the Rodriguez family farms in the Caranavi and Samaipata regions. This Geisha lot from the Rodriguez Finca Alasitas was the only offering won by an American roaster from their latest auction.
Both of the Geisha offerings in this cupping are processed using the 'Natural' method, being dried in the fruit before final processing and roasting.
This coffee cupping is an opportunity to taste both of these rare and special coffees. The event is co-hosted by Chuck Patton and Chris O'Brien, who will lead you through the steps of a professional coffee tasting (cupping), helping you through a true sensory evaluation of these world-class coffees.
Chuck Patton is the legendary founder of Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, former Micro Roaster of the Year and winner of Coffee Review's number one coffee of the year. Chuck has started a new venture roasting exceptional coffees in small batches.
Chris O'Brien is a long time former employee of Chuck's, and has been running his own coffee business for the past eight years. After launching his roasting program, Chris has received some high scores of his own from Coffee Review, and has built a reputation for always having great coffee.
