For G.E. Smith, it all began in rural Stroudsburg, PA, where he was just about born with a guitar in his hand. After accomplishing all he could in the bar-band scene as a teenager, G.E. left the Poconos and quickly established himself as a “top gun” guitarist.In late 1977, G.E. got his first break touring with Dan Hartman. Soon after he was playing on Broadway for comedian Gilda Radner. Then, Daryl Hall and John Oates came calling. Smith toured and recorded with them for 6 years. His hard work earned him a commanding position in the music industry as a first call blues/rock guitarist, sought out by major recording artists.When Hall & Oates took a break, Smith moved on to be musical director for Saturday Night Live, leading the band for 10 years. (At this time, he also toured with Bob Dylan for 4 years.)
