The event will look at the steps a small VCSE sector organisation should take when handling any personal data
About this Event

The workshop will be delivered by Community Matters and will look at the steps a small VCSE sector organisation should take when handling any personal data. The workshop is particularly useful if your organisation is in the process of reviewing or creating policies and procedures.

Training content:

The session aims to cover the following topics:

  • GDPR post Brexit
  • Data Controller vs Processor
  • Reviewing the personal data you hold
  • Data Retention and Disposal
  • Data Security
  • Transparency
  • Subject Access Requests (SAR)
  • Data Breaches

Additional areas covered include:

  • Retention periods: these vary drastically, they will cover a few and there will be a link that points people to a useful resource around that.
  • Lawful reasons for collecting personal data: there are several categories for this and again whilst they will cover a few in the workshop, people will need to go through their data and form their own reasons (or decide they shouldn't actually be collecting the personal data because can't find a lawful reason to have it).
  • Some of the mystique has gone around GDPR but there are much clearer and easier to follow guidelines that they'll also give links to. These include other training either for staff generally or for staff with specific responsibilities.

The speaker:

John Wilson works at Community Matters as the chief officer he also spends much of his working week providing organisational development support and advice to organisations running Community Spaces and small charities. He has had a varied career including time spent in Leeds City Council supporting Childcare and also a stint in Commissioning as well as being employed as a quality Assurance assessor for a large national Charity
