About this Event
Andra Day gives a career-defining performance as the impassioned and utterly unique American vocalist and jazz-era icon, Billie Holiday, in Lee Daniels' politically-charged biopic that was criminally underwatched on its original Covid-period release. As part of our ongoing season looking at the work of the iconoclastic, genre-mashing filmmaker, this is as close as Daniels' ever will get to 'straight' filmmaking, as he hops around the racism and misogyny that defined the period of her drugs incarceration and the resulting impact this had on her music career.
Notes: (15) Drug abuse, domestic violence, racism and racist language, strong sex scenes and nudity, bad language.
