About this Event
For the NINETEENTH edition of Gathering South Presents, it’s the damnedest pleasure to open up the sessions for 2025 with this ‘Les Caravans Special’, a unique and exciting collaboration showcasing some of the most prolific Folk Singers and Guitarists of our time of which I’m enthralled to host on this series of intimate concerts and give a nice big Glaschu welcome..
Sam Grassie // Alfie Jones // Sam Fryer // Mataio A. Dean (shovel dance)
‘Inspired by the all-night impromptu format of the legendary 60’s folk clubs, Les Caravans is a travelling collective comprising some of Britain’s finest singers & instrumentalists. First meeting in London’s Broadside Hacks MOTH nights, the group now features musicians from across the British isles including Robin Adams (Glasgow), Daisy Rickman (Cornwall), Sam Grassie (Biggar), Rosie Brownhill (Staffordshire), Mataio Austin Dean (Portsmouth), Sam Fryer (Cardiff) & Alfie Jones (London) a trip to the edge of the Land in Penzance got them thinking they could bring their raw take on the road. An evening with Les Caravans begins with solo performances and descends into a raucous full band performance that rings into the cold night.’

The Old Toll // The Red Door Club
Glasgow's finest pub interior, situated in the ground floor of a three-storey tenement built in 1860 and remodeled in 1892–1893. One hundred years ago, there were many ornate pubs like this throughout the city, as publicans went to great lengths to outshine their competitors at a time when skilled labour was cheap. This is one of Glasgow’s last remaining Victorian 'palace pubs'. The Red Door Club is The Old Toll’s newly established basement venue space.
