About this Event
About the Event
Join us for an important stakeholder information and awareness event introducing the new Children and Young People’s Safe Haven—an open‑access emotional and practical support service for 13–18-year‑olds across Newcastle and Gateshead.
This event brings together partners, practitioners, and service leads to explore how the CYP Safe Haven will operate, the pathways into the service, and how we can work collaboratively to ensure young people receive the right support at the right time.
Please note: Registration is from 1 pm to start the main session at 1.30 pm.
Why Attend?
This session will help you:
- Understand why the service has been commissioned, the background behind it, and the needs it aims to address.
- Gain clarity on how the CYP Safe Haven will be delivered—including referral pathways, opening times, safeguarding, and service criteria.
- Learn what the service does and does not do, and how it fits within the wider CYP support system in Newcastle and Gateshead.
- Meet the teams from Children North East and Everyturn Mental Health who will be delivering the service.
- Network with other organisations and professionals supporting young people locally.
- Contribute to developing a shared bank of organisations able to help young people across a range of issues.
- Have your questions answered through interactive Menti activities and live Q&A.
What to Expect
The session includes:
- Presentations from Children North East, Everyturn Mental Health and the North East & North Cumbria ICB
- Table‑based networking and collaborative activities
- Insights into the practical day‑to‑day running of the CYP Safe Haven
- A live Q&A panel
- Refreshments throughout
We also encourage all attendees to contribute to our Commitment Wall, pledging how their organisation will support the Safe Haven and wider CYP system.
Why This Matters
- In 2023, one in five children and young people in England aged 8–25 had a probable mental health disorder.
- Since 2020, the number of under‑18s in contact with secondary mental health services has more than doubled, with over 1 million children involved in 2024–25.
- The CYP Safe Haven supports the NHS Long Term Plan by offering early, community‑based intervention and reducing pressure on crisis services.
We Look Forward to Seeing You
This event is a chance for all partners to come together, strengthen collaboration, and build confidence in a service designed to improve outcomes for young people across our region.
