The Hardin County History Museum in Elizabethtown, KY will serve as the host for the November 10 presentation of a new book by Kentucky best-selling author Gary P. West of Elizabethtown, KY.
King Kelly Coleman-Kentucky’s Greatest Basketball Legend-The New Expanded Edition is the story of the life of the young mountain boy and Floyd County native who ascended to legendary status for his amazing exploits both on and off the court in the golden age of high school basketball, setting state records in the process that are still standing today.
According to Kenny Tabb, member of the Museum Board, the special event, sponsored by The Hardin County History Museum, will allow sports fans to meet the author and purchase signed copies of the book, which will be signed by West himself. West will be speaking and retelling stories about Coleman and Kentucky’s great basketball heritage. The free event begins at 5:00 pm and will be taking place at the Hardin County History Museum, located at 201 West Dixie Avenue in Elizabethtown. Light refreshments will be served.
West wrote Coleman’s original biography 20 years ago, getting his rare, personal accounts from Coleman himself. The book single-handedly started a basketball history renaissance in Kentucky, sparking research and other books and articles about that fascinating period of time in sports history. The new book contains all of the original information plus many more new discoveries and photographs about Kelly’s career and the extraordinary events resulting from the book, such as him finally accepting his All-Tournament Team trophy 50 years after winning it at the state tournament, and the last years of his life.
West is a highly acclaimed, long-time sportswriter in the state, having written 13 books on Kentucky sports, travel and biographies in addition to the two books on Coleman.
For those who cannot attend the event in person, copies of King Kelly Coleman can be purchased at the museum, at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, through the publisher’s website, www.acclaimpress.com and at other retail bookstores across the state.
