Flood Response
Ark of Highland Lakes launched its flood response Saturday, July 5, at the request of Emergency Management, opening immediate shelters for displaced residents in Marble Falls and Burnet. On Sunday, full disaster operations were underway—mobilizing volunteers for donation intake, food distribution, and support for survivors, first responders, and volunteers. Trained muck-out teams were deployed into the field beginning July 6th. Guided by a commitment to compassionate care, Ark combines physical recovery with emotional and spiritual support. Flood operations continue today based at the Marble Falls Warehouse and Ark Offices.
Much of the media attention focused on the flooding in Kerr County and other areas across Central Texas, so the Burnet County area has been overlooked. The Ark is working on more than 430 cases for long-term recovery and support. One of the severely impacted areas includes an RV park, where approximately 50 RVs were damaged, most completely destroyed. Many of these were long-term living situations. Many of the automobiles washed downstream. This will create a heavy financial impact on us as there is very little "renovation" that can be done to provide an adequate living situation. Many more cases occurred in areas of existing high poverty, which complicates the ability to rebound and rebuild from an event like this. We anticipate we will need more than $3 million to help our neighbors recover from this disaster.
