After a lifelong battle with cancer, Gary Kozub (69) of Lake Country, passed away peacefully at home on November 30th 2024, surrounded by family. He was born in Calgary Alberta on October 16th 1955, to George and Lucille Kozub. He called many places home in his early years and after a full and bountiful career in the Canadian Armed Forces, he retired and made Lake country his home, with his wife Reinhild and their daughters. He was known and loved by many in our community because of his caring and giving nature.
Gary was a SD23 bus driver, where he became a staple of school life for hundreds of children throughout the years until he retired. Receiving messages about his impact during his bus driving years has been some of the best messages to receive through his health struggles and relaying them to him always put a huge smile on his face.
Gary wanted to be an active and contributing part of the LC community, even while he was fighting cancer. He took on the major fishery project of the Fish and Game, helping create the George Mitchell Wildlife Preserve, where his photos still hang on display, and where he also used his knowledge and experience to educate the younger generations on wildlife preservation. He was also a member of the Citizens Patrol and Lion's Club.
Over the past 8 years, due to his quickly deteriorating health, he was no longer able to be an active part of the community and instead focused on being the best dad and grandpa to his kids Tina (Andre) Robitaille, Lisa (predeceased Byron) Daniel, Selina (Scott Maciag) Kozub, special daughter Nicole Squair and 5 grandkids. He will also be missed by his 6 siblings.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Gary's name to Paws It Forward Dog Rescue.
