3 historic Idaho folk songwriters are partnering for an evening of original and traditional early Idaho historical folk songs and stories.One night. Three historic Idaho folk songwriters. Gary Eller ( Idaho Songs Project ), Tracy Morrison ( Historical Idaho Women Stories & Folksongs ), and Connor Jay Liess ( Trapper's Attic Record Co. ) are partnering on February 6 for an evening featuring original and traditional early Idaho historical folk songs and stories from the Western frontier.
Gary Eller Gary Eller has played American roots music since he grew up in rural West Virginia. Following a thirty-year career as a nuclear scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, he retired to Nampa and immediately became deeply involved in Idaho history and music. Since initial funding from the Idaho Humanities Council in 2007 and 2008, he has compiled about 200 historically rooted songs of our region and performs them at many events throughout Idaho. Gary works closely with regional museums and universities to collect, archive, and bring to life through performance and interpretation the wonderful windows into Idaho’s heritage that these songs present. Tracy Morrison- Tracy Morrison is an Idaho based singer-songwriter known for writing powerful laments and western story songs. She has been a featured artist at the Montana Folk Festival and the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. She has opened for world renowned folksinger, Tish Hinojosa and shared the stage with guitar virtuoso, Sergio Webb. Morrison produced an acoustic collection of original western folksongs in her latest album “Flower Songs in Sagebrush Town” (2019). The recordings capture Tracy’s elegant voice and old-time style guitar picking. Her album “Heirloom” (2018) was produced by multi-instrumentalist, composer and songwriter, Thomas Paul. This project shares compelling electric guitar riffs, intricate bass lines, and graceful vocal harmonies that showcase Morrison's folk-rock personality. In 2014, she released “Dancing Through Medbury” original folk songs highlighting her rural roots & incorporating hints of old-time country-blues and western. In 2012, she released a self-titled, alternative country record produced by legendary songwriter Pinto Bennett. Connor Jay Liess- Connor Jay Liess is a singer-songwriter, Idaho balladeer, and roadkill mortician who writes songs and stories about railroad and mining history, hunting/fishing tales, and folk/bluegrass music inspired by the Rocky Mountain wilderness and the American West. His fourth album, A Miner’s Guide to Hills and Depression released on Nov. 1, 2024, is a collection of 14 songs that trace the psychological highs and lows of life in Western mining camps and frontier wilderness.
