Many of us feel the deer pressure as soon as we walk out into the yard and we have resigned ourselves that we must garden with them. Learn how to differentiate deer browsing from other mammalian herbivory and explore a variety of plants that are more deer resistant than others. Join the instructors in the trial garden to explore the results of deer herbivory data collected that may inform your plant selections. Class ends with a tour of the gardens. Class is rain or shine.
This program takes place in-person at Mt. Cuba Center Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
About the Instructor:
Kathleen Salisbury is the Director of the Ambler Arboretum of Temple University, where she teaches tree and shrub identification and landscape management. Kathy holds an MEd in Adult Education and Lifelong Learning from Penn State, an MS in Public Garden Management from the University of Delaware where she was a Longwood Fellow, and a BS in Ornamental Horticulture and Environmental Design from Delaware Valley University. From arboretum director to zoo horticulturist Kathy has more than 3 decades of diverse experiences in the horticultural field. A certified arborist and tree-hugger she plans vacations around visiting the largest trees she can find.
