Course Description:

Join Stuart and Andrea of Blue Spruce Horticulture in a discussion about creating a wildlife-friendly garden that attracts pollinators and supports local biodiversity. In this class, they'll share which native plants and sustainable gardening practices they have found to be most effective for Northern Colorado’s climate and ecosystem. They’ll cover practical tips for designing pollinator habitats, selecting plants that thrive in our region, and real industry experiences on what worked - or needed reworked.

Presented by Stuart Shoemaker & Andrea Work:

Stuart Shoemaker is Blue Spruce’s founder and chief operator. He holds degrees from Colorado State in Cultural Anthropology and Horticulture, as well as a certificate in Landscape Design from Front Range Community College. Stuart has been working professionally in the field for over a decade and is an active member of the Colorado Master Gardeners. When he’s not out digging holes or holed up at the desk you can find him enjoying delicious craft beverages or making kimchee with his wife Katie who is a fermentation scientist.

Andrea Work originally hails from the land of Penn’s Woods and is a true horticulturist and an entrepreneur. On the Blue Spruce Horticulture team, she manages the garden maintenance division and is also helping to develop their permaculture and vegetable gardening capacities. After displaying an ethos of respect and care for the environment, Andrea was asked to become their director of Sustainability. In this role she keeps a constant eye on all facets of the business, analyzing and implementing ways in which the company can stay true to their values. Outside of work Andrea stays busy adventuring, growing native plants, and creating art with plants from her garden.
