Join us for a workshop to help you get started planning a garden, understanding growing methods, and feel confident going into spring!
About this Event

Join us for a spring workshop on gardening and garden planning!

You will:

  • Grow comfort with planning growing space
  • Practice multiple methods of starting plants for a growing season.
  • Share knowledge around planting practices and resources.
  • Walk away thinking “I know what my next step is to start my garden this year”

Meet your facilitators!

Katie Brantley (she/her) was born and raised here on the ancestral homelands of the Council of Three Fires: the Anishinaabeg, Odawak, and Bodéwadmik Nations. She has been a teacher, a nanny, a gardener, and a program runner. Her favorite flora-friends to include in a garden are climbers (snap peas, sanditas, nasturtiums), but underground growers are a close second. Her best fun fact is that her face is on a mural in the city, but she will never, ever reveal its location.

Ben Berrick (he/him) grew up near the Atlantic on the ancestral lands of the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe, and has worked as a baker, teacher, garden educator, and beekeeper. His favorite plants are either weedy, herby survivors or trees. The only bones he has broken are his toes, and couldn't tell you his favorite genre of music for a million billion dollars.

This event uses tiered ticket pricing to help us cover event costs while also keeping programming accessible. Please select the ticket level you're most comfortable with!

Skunk Cabbage Books is a COVID conscious space and requires masks for all our visitors. We use HEPA air purifiers to improve indoor air quality. The shop’s aisles meet ADA accessibility requirements and we do not have any stairs. We have a restroom available to event participants, but we regret that it is not accessible. There is street parking available along Milwaukee Ave., but the shop does not have dedicated parking. Please contact us at [email protected] or (872) 206-8039 if there is anything we can do to make this event more accessible to you.
