This spring, add some custom flair to your garden tool collection with a very special blacksmithing workshop at Island Farm! In collaboration with local blacksmith Randy Hodges, workshop participants will be taught how to make a custom garden trowel using traditional blacksmithing techniques. The Farm’s blacksmith shop will serve as the workshop space, a reconstructed building that emulates what type of shop would have been on the north end of Roanoke Island in 1850.
On Saturday, May 22nd from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., join Island Farm for this special, hands-on workshop. Workshop participants will get to make either a steel or wooden handle for their custom garden trowel. These one-of-a-kind shovels are sturdy and beautiful, and will last a lifetime. The cost for this workshop is $60, and there is an additional $15 cost for materials. Advance registration is required, and an electronic ticket will be sent via email upon registration.
Masks are required at this event where social distancing is not possible. In the case of inclement weather, ticket fees will be fully refunded. Participants are encouraged to bring their own snacks, beverages, and safety glasses. For more information, please call 252-473-6500 or email [email protected]
Island Farm is located at 1140 N Hwy 64, just north of Manteo on Roanoke Island.
