💡 This year, we celebrate and embrace the genius of Thomas Edison. Although born in Ohio, he developed most of his 1,093 patents in his NJ labs in Menlo Park and West Orange.
💡 Some of his most famous inventions are listed below. Excited to see you all on March 23!
1️⃣ Phonograph.
We could now record and reproduce sound! The audio recording industry was thus born. You’re welcome, Taylor Swift!
2️⃣ Practical Electric Light Bulb.
While he didn’t invent the first light bulb, he made the first one that actually lasted.
3️⃣ Electric Power Distribution System.
We can thank Thomas for enabling homes and businesses to be powered by electricity.
4️⃣ Motion Picture Camera (Kinetograph) and Viewer (Kinetoscope).
Hollywood started here in NJ, as these two inventions enabled recording and viewing motion pictures. You’re welcome, Denzel Washington!
5️⃣ Stock Ticker.
This transmitted stock prices over telegraph wires - revolutionizing how financial information was shared.
6️⃣ Improved Telegraph Systems.
This allowed us to send multiple message over a single wire. Imagine being able send just one text a day!
7️⃣ Alkaline Storage Battery.
Improving battery technology was a game changer. Imagine a world without batteries!
8️⃣ Carbon Microphone.
This improved sound quality in the telephone. These were used widely until the 1980s!
