Join us on the farm for a milky oats and oatstraw community harvest party! We will also have a community rose distillation and pop-up plant sale with Garland’s Garden so you can pick up other medicinal plants for your home garden.COMMUNITY DISTILLATION:
We will be doing a distillation demo of rose and other herbs we pick together on the farm, showing you the process of how to create a medicinal hydrosol with our traditional copper still.
If you have fragrant roses in your yard, please harvest the petals and bring a basket! The multiflora roses just started blooming around town so now is the perfect time to distill them! Any fragrant variety of unsprayed roses can be added to the distillation. To distill a gallon of rosewater, we need about ten pounds of petals, so bring what you can.
If you contribute to the distillation, we will send you home with a vial of rosewater, which can be used as a soothing facial toner or in culinary recipes.
OAT HARVEST:
Milky oats are THE go-to herb for today's times. This nutrient-rich herb directly nourishes the nervous system, gently strengthening the body over time and acting as a soothing balm for the spirit in troubled times. Oatstraw is also incredibly nutrient-dense and makes for a wonderful addition to spring herbal infusions.
We invite you to join us for the harvest! Sarah will show you how to gather the milky oats and oatstraw, teach you about the medicinal benefits of the plant, and share information on how to process your harvest into a tincture or glycerite.
Attendance for this event is free but the price of the fresh oats and straw is $20 per pound. We will weigh your harvest before you leave and will be able to take payment via credit card or Venmo. Please bring a basket to take your oats home in.
Though spots are limited for the harvest, everyone is welcome to come to the plant sale and distillation demo! We will have herbal tea on tap, music playing, and maybe a bonfire if the weather is kind.
